African Indigenous Agency for Development, (AIAD) is a national organisation registered in Kenya in 2018. It has a board of directors that is headed by Patrick Ole Twala the Director of Environment at the Narok County Government. The organisation’s mission is to work with communities in Kenya and the region to transform the lives of the poor and marginalised by ensuring that no one is left behind.

The organisation partners with various entities to implement a few projects in Isiolo under the Pan African Climate and Justice Alliance(PACJA); who engage partners in Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu and Laikipia counties on the formation of a platform on climate change to ensure that gender and youth groups are included.

The Empowering marginalised women and girls in Oloshaiki ward of Suswa, Narok East project empowers women through the income generating activity of beadwork and linking them to the government led Ushanga Initiative for sustainability and marketing of their products. In addition, the young girls are supported in schools through outreaches and promotion of Girl-Parent forums and visiting mentors who have gone through the schooling cycle successfully to reduce the number of school dropouts due to teenage pregnancies.

The Ilkunono sub-clan of the Maasai community face marginalisation from the larger Maasai community and are not allowed to compete for political office and for a long time their girls were not married as they were considered unclean. This marginalisation has seen them lose out on development projects from the government especially the county government and Community Development Fund. There is no single community project which has been initiated by the county government for this community making this project timely.
